Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris, the country’s richest man, is preparing to invest as much as $50 billion in U.S. infrastructure projects, he told the Financial Times in an interview published on Monday.

Sawiris, whose wealth is estimated at over $11 billion by Forbes, said the planned investments would target large-scale infrastructure opportunities in the United States as he restructures his global business holdings. He is consolidating his publicly traded companies in Abu Dhabi, streamlining operations to support the expansion drive.

The 63-year-old businessman controls Orascom Construction, a major engineering and building contractor, and holds stakes in fertilizer giant OCI N.V. as well as various industrial and sports assets.

His family is among the most influential in the Middle East, with wide-ranging interests in construction, energy, and telecommunications.

Sawiris did not provide a timeline or specific sectors for the U.S. investments but said infrastructure remained a long-term growth area, supported by Washington’s push to modernize transport, energy, and digital networks.

The move underscores a growing trend of Middle Eastern investors expanding into U.S. and European markets, particularly in sectors linked to energy transition and large-scale development.
