Busia, Kenya — Detectives have launched investigations into a string of murder cases reported across the country on Sunday, June 29, as authorities express concern over the rising trend of violent killings.
In Busia County, the body of Richard Kutto Kipkemboi, 56, was found floating in Museverende River, Muyafwa area. Kipkemboi, who hailed from Kamariny, Elgeyo Marakwet County, had been reported missing before his body was discovered.
Police said the body bore visible signs of strangulation around the neck, and believe he may have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the river. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In Kakamega County, tragedy struck when Bradette Wesonga, 49, was stabbed to death while trying to intervene in a fight between two men over a woman in Navakholo. Wesonga sustained a fatal stab wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The suspect later surrendered to police.
Meanwhile, in Migori County, the body of Billy Ochieng, 31, was discovered on his father’s farm in Kamagambo, lying in a pool of blood with deep cut wounds to the head, hands, and back. A struggle appeared to have taken place, police said. Ochieng was last seen in the area on the evening of June 28. Investigations into the motive are ongoing.
In Machakos County, a man was found murdered in a thicket in Kasolongo with multiple neck injuries. The body, discovered on June 29, was moved to the mortuary pending identification and further investigations.
In Kitui County, a woman identified as Kakundi Kalusi, 48, was found dead beside the road in Nguutani, along the Garissa-Kanyonyoo Road. She had visible injuries on her lower limbs and face. Police later arrested three suspects in connection with the murder.
In Siaya County, the naked body of Sally Odhiambo, 37, was discovered on a farm in Ukwala, with deep cut wounds to the head. Police said Odhiambo left her house on Saturday evening after being called by a person she knew. The suspect later surrendered to police.
In Nakuru County, a domestic dispute turned fatal when Victor Langat was stabbed to death by his partner during a quarrel at their home in Rhonda. Langat was stabbed in the pelvis with a kitchen knife and succumbed to his injuries. The woman was arrested pending investigations.
Police say cases of murder are on the rise, with many remaining unsolved as security agencies grapple with the trend. Authorities have urged the public to exercise restraint and report suspicious activities to law enforcement to prevent further loss of life.
