Eight Police Officers were arrested on Monday, September 22, in connection with the theft of a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, registration number KDL 366N.
According to a police report, the vehicle was stolen from the Maseno Police Station yard.
The 8 officers were arrested by a team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Nairobi headquarters, working in consultation with the County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) and the County Police Commander (CPC), Kisumu.
The Land Cruiser V8 had initially been stolen on September 16, 2025, before being recovered at Maseno Shopping Centre by officers from the Maseno Police Station.
The recovery was documented under OB No. 46/10/09/2025 at 5:27 p.m., after which it was parked again at the station yard before it went missing under unclear circumstances.
“Early morning the following officers were arrested by officers from DCI Nairobi hqrs(OSU), in consultation with CCI, CPC Kisumu and placed in custody at Kisumu Central Police station in connection with theft of motor vehicle reg no KDL 366N Toyota Land Cruiser V8 black in colour that was stolen at Maseno Police Station packing yard vide OB No. 15/16/09/2025 at 1050hrs of Maseno Police Station,” read the police report in part.
The 8 officers include: PC Shaban Omar, PC Stanley Kosgei, PC Fredric Lubatse, PC Harrison Muchiri, PC Charles Mutahi, PC Jackson Lugadili, PC Elphas Sigoi, and PC Isaac Kipgeno.
The officers have been placed in custody at the Kisumu Central Police Station pending further interrogation.
Meanwhile, the case is under active investigation by DCI Nairobi headquarters and the CCIO Kisumu.
The incident comes days after a DCI officer was arrested after allegedly shooting dead two boda boda riders in Thika, Kiambu County.
The officer, identified as Constable Eric G.N. from DCI headquarters, was involved in a minor accident near Makongeni Police Station between his Audi and a motorcycle.
The officer, who was allegedly intoxicated and violent, opened fire during a heated altercation, fatally shooting two men.
“During the melee, the officer shot two bystanders, namely Kennedy Ojuma, aged 38, and Stephen Mwendwa Maweu, aged 39. They both succumbed to their injuries,” the police report read.
Following the incident, enraged residents set the officer’s Audi on fire despite attempts by fellow riders to calm the crowd.
