El Classico: Barcelona Defeat Madrid To Inch Closer To La Liga Title

Barcelona produced a dramatic comeback to defeat Real Madrid 4-3 in an electrifying El Clasico on Sunday, moving within touching distance of the La Liga title.

Despite Kylian Mbappe netting a stunning hat-trick for the visitors, goals from Raphinha (2), Lamine Yamal, and Eric Garcia sealed a vital victory for Hansi Flick’s side, who now sit seven points clear at the top with three matches to play.

Real Madrid looked poised for victory early on, with Mbappe scoring twice within the opening 15 minutes — first from the penalty spot and then with a composed finish after a Vinicius Junior assist. His brace took him to the top of the La Liga scoring charts, overtaking Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona, however, refused to crumble. Eric Garcia sparked the comeback with a header from a corner, followed swiftly by a curling strike from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal to level the score. Raphinha then gave the hosts the lead, finishing off a slick move initiated by Pedri.

Just before half-time, the Brazilian doubled his tally after pouncing on a Madrid defensive error and playing a quick one-two with Ferran Torres.

Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the second half after linking up once again with Vinicius, but it wasn’t enough. Despite late pressure and a disallowed Barcelona goal from Fermin Lopez, the hosts held firm.

“We had to show character after our Champions League exit,” said Yamal post-match. “This win brings the title closer.”

Real Madrid now face Mallorca midweek — anything less than a win could hand Barcelona the trophy.

Barcelona, who last lifted the La Liga title in 2023, have now beaten Madrid in all four meetings this season, reinforcing their dominance as Spain’s top side under Flick.
