In a reaffirmation of its diplomatic stance, the Republic of El Salvador has reiterated its firm support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This endorsement was expressed by Salvadoran Vice-President Félix Ulloa during a bilateral meeting with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
The diplomatic encounter took place on the sidelines of the inauguration of Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa in Quito, where Minister Bourita was representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Central to the discussions was the potential opening of a Salvadoran consulate in Laayoune, a move described by both parties as a significant step toward recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over the region. The proposed consulate would not only symbolize El Salvador’s political backing but also mark a concrete stride in deepening bilateral engagement.
Vice-President Ulloa emphasized El Salvador’s commitment to fostering a robust partnership with Morocco, underscoring shared interests and the desire to enhance cooperation across various sectors. Both sides hailed the strong bonds of friendship between their nations and agreed to explore new avenues for collaboration aimed at promoting mutual prosperity and regional stability.
This gesture of support from El Salvador adds to the growing international recognition of Morocco’s territorial claims in the Sahara and highlights a broader diplomatic trend in Latin America favoring closer ties with Rabat.
