The Eldoret Law courts learned magistrate ruled that the prosecution had proved their case beyond any reasonable doubt that indeed the minor was sexually terrorized by the grandfather.
Further, the court ruled that it was its duty to protect the rights of vulnerable children whose hope most of the time lies to the criminal justice system.
The court sentenced Jefunea Situma alias Mdudu, 70, to 20 years in prison for defiling a 12-year-old child.
The prosecution, led by Jamlick Muriithi and Jairus Onkoba, informed the court that on March 11, 2020, the accused defiled the victim in Natwana Village, Uasin Gishu.
The victim told the court that the accused dragged her to his house, stripped her naked, defiled her, and then threatened to kill her with a knife if she screamed. Six witnesses were called by the prosecution to testify in the case.
