Elijah Julius Obebo has been sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Kisii County, succeeding Robert Monda, who was impeached.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Gusii Stadium, where Obebo took the oath of office to serve under Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
Obebo, formerly the County Public Service Board Chair, expressed gratitude and outlined his commitment to the county’s future in his inaugural address.
“I accept the appointment as the Deputy Governor of Kisii County government. Your Excellency, let me begin by thanking the Almighty God for making this day possible,” he declared amid cheers from the crowd.
His appointment marks a significant transition in Kisii County’s administration after months without a deputy governor. Obebo extended heartfelt thanks to the Governor for the trust placed in him, assuring his loyalty.
“I thank you for finding me suitable to be your principal assistant and your confidant. As I take charge of this confidence you have bestowed on me, I promise to undertake and be your loyal lieutenant,” he stated.
Obebo emphasized that his journey is a testament to dedication and integrity. “This is a testament that any child can become whatever they want with hard work, integrity, and resilience,” he affirmed.
Looking ahead, Deputy Governor Obebo reiterated his commitment to the Governor’s vision for Kisii County. “I reiterate my commitment, dedication, and goodwill to deliver all your manifesto and vision for a great Kisii County,” he pledged.
He also highlighted his support for zero tolerance to corruption and misuse of public resources, calling it “the promise of freedom that the people of Kisii have been waiting for.”
Obebo paid tribute to his family for their unwavering support. “I thank my wife Margaret and our children who have been great pillars in their steadfast love up to this point.
From the humble beginnings of Nyamasiro village all through to the county government and now to be your loyal deputy,” he reflected.
