Chips Vendor Jailed For Using Transformer Oil

A man was sentenced to two years in jail for using transformer oil to cook chips.

Elijah Mwangi Muthoga, who owns a restaurant in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, was sentenced to two years in prison with an alternative fine of Sh200,000.

The Kenya Power said that Muthoga was arrested with 11 liters of transformer oil.

According to the statement “The oil was used to fry chips at his hotel and repackaged for sale as popcorn cooking oil,”

His co-accused, Zachary Mwangi Gitau, from whom he received the transformer oil, was sentenced to ten years in prison or a Sh10 million fine for vandalizing the transformer.
