Election Observer Group (ELOG) has distanced itself from a video going viral on social media that indicated the group had infiltrated the IEBC servers.
John Githongo released the video to support of Azimio la Umoja leaders Raila Odinga and Martha Karua’s petition challenging Ruto’s victory in the presidential election.
In a public notice, ELOG that it has launched investigations to ascertain how Githongo acquired an ELOG branded jacket that he wore as he interviewed the alleged IEBC server hacker.
“ELOG wishes to clarify that, the said individual (John Githongo) is neither a member of ELOG nor an accredited observer.”
According to ELOG’s chairperson steering Committee Anne Ireri, during the elections, they issued jackets to a special category of trained and accredited independent and non-partisan roving observers drawn from its leadership known as the Steering Committee and advisory peace panel, its thematic members and partners and senior staff.
“We have therefore launched an investigation to ascertain how Githongo acquired the jacket ” reads the statement partly.
