Elon Musk Unveils XChat to Rival WhatsApp, Telegram & WeChat

Elon Musk’s ambition to transform X into an all-in-one super app took a significant leap forward with the launch of XChat, a new dedicated messaging platform positioned to rival WhatsApp, Telegram, and China’s WeChat.

In an official post on X, Musk introduced XChat as a secure, feature-rich messenger offering Bitcoin-style encryption, disappearing messages, file sharing, and cross-platform audio/video calls.

The Tesla CEO emphasized that security and speed are at the core of XChat, with the app built using Rust, a programming language praised for its safety features and performance.

“All new XChat is rolling out with encryption, vanishing messages and the ability to send any kind of file. Also, audio/video calling,” wrote Musk.

The inclusion of end-to-end encryption places XChat among the ranks of privacy-focused messaging apps like Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

Unlike its competitors, however, XChat integrates directly with the X ecosystem, potentially offering a seamless experience for users already on the platform.

Currently, XChat is in beta testing, limited to select developers and paid subscribers of X. It remains unclear whether a free version with limited features will be introduced to broaden its appeal.

XChat is expected to be available on Android, iOS, and web platforms, with speculation mounting about potential integration with Grok AI, X’s in-house chatbot, for features such as smart replies or message summarization—similar to Meta’s integration of AI with WhatsApp.
