Award-winning social media star Elsa Majimbo has once again found herself at the center of controversy after posting pictures of her latest outfit while strolling through Beverly Hills, California.
The 23-year-old content creator, who relocated to the United States at the height of her internet fame, shared images of herself in a see-through maroon dress that left little to the imagination.
“I was walking in Beverly Hills today when I realized a man in a black BMW was photographing me. These are the pics he sent. My street style is 10/10 damn,” she captioned the photos.
Almost immediately, Kenyans flooded her comment section with criticism, some accusing her of drug abuse, others linking her style to “Illuminati” influences, and a few blaming poor parenting. Majimbo hit back at the backlash, contrasting the reception in Los Angeles with that in her home country.
“It’s so funny to see so many Africans dismissing my aesthetic as drug use and Illuminati and in LA my fits are legendary in the streets. The contrast is insane,” she wrote.
This is not the first time Majimbo has clashed with Kenyan audiences over her daring fashion choices. She previously revealed that some people had reported her outfits to her parents, who she described as “literally my best friends.”
Now living on her own, the TikTok personality has often spoken about the freedom independence gives her. “It’s my roof, my rules,” she once said, reflecting on the thrill of having friends over at any time and going out whenever she chooses.
“My parents are the kind who believe you can’t go out two days in a row. If you went out yesterday, today you’re staying in the house.”
