After failing to propose Dr James Gesami as deputy governor, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has appointed him as a special programmes adviser.
The controversial nomination has seen an evident firestorm in Nyamira politics, with MCAs promising to block Dr. Gesami’s appointment.
Mr Nyaribo’s attempt to resubmit the name of the former West Mugirango MP and former Health Assistant minister for fresh vetting and clearance failed after a judge in Nyamira barred him from doing so.
According to a statement from the governor’s office, Dr. Gesami was appointed on a one-year contract in job group ‘S’.
“In the governor’s office, Mr Gesami will be the adviser in charge of special duties,” it read.
On Monday, Dr. Gesami appeared at the Nyamira County headquarters.
Residents believe that in 2022, a Nyaribo-Gesami ticket will be the gubernatorial ticket to beat.
Dr. Gesami’s vetting was suspended in May by High Court Judge Esther Maina, who was scheduled to appear before the Nyamira County Assembly’s appointments committee.
