Embattled FKF President Denies Graft Charges

A Nairobi court has released former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Nick Mwendwa on Ksh10 M cash bail. after denying graft charges.

According to court documents, Nick Mwendwa is accused of fraudulent acquisition of public property worth Ksh2.5 Million, the property of FKF on May 21, 2021.

The prosecution further stated that Nick acquired another property of FKF worth Ksh5Million on May 4, 2021. The state also argued that Mwendwa acquired another FKF property priced at Ksh1Million on May 6, 2021.

The former FKF boss was also faced with the charge of conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption to defraud FKF Ksh 29.5Million.

He however denied the charges and was released on Ksh 15M bond and two sureties of a similar amount.

In her ruling, Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Eunice Nyutu, ordered Mwendwa to submit his travel passport to court, to refrain from speaking to or discussing the matter to the media and not to access the FKF office without a court order or accompanied by an Investigation officer.

These directives came after the court denied the application by the defence to have the charge sheet revised.

The defence team led by advocate Erick Mutua had claimed that the prosecution had acted in bad faith and the charge sheet was not to be used in charging Mwendwa.

The prosecution denied the claims saying the charges were within Mwendwa’s constitutional rights.

The mentioned date for pretrial will be on December 20, 2021.
