Embu Jubilee Governor Candidate Defects To UDA

Kathuri stated that Kenya Kwanza was the winning team, and that Ruto's political faction would prevail when Kenyans vote next week.

Emilio Murithi Kathuri, the Jubilee Party’s Embu gubernatorial candidate, has defected to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) just four days before the August 9 elections.

While meeting with Deputy President William Ruto and his allies in Karen on Thursday night, August 4, Kathuri announced that he was abandoning his ambitions in favor of the UDA’s candidate, Cecily Mutitu Mbarire.

Kathuri stated that Kenya Kwanza was the winning team, and that Ruto’s political faction would prevail when Kenyans vote next week.

“I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for having been accepted in the hustler family and I hereby state categorically that I am supporting my sister Cecily Mbarire,” Kathuri stated.

Susan Nyaga, the Embu Woman Representative candidate on the Jubilee Party ticket, was also received by the DP.

Ruto, for his part, stated that the defections were a reflection of Kenya Kwanza’s support in the Mount Kenya region.

He went on to say that the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s supporters would ensure Mbarire’s victory in the gubernatorial election and solidify the Kenya Kwanza’s presidential vote.

Furthermore, the UDA presidential candidate promised the two candidates jobs in his government if he wins the presidential election on August 9.

“My good brother Emilio welcome to the hustler family. I also want to welcome Susan to the team and I want to agree with you that we need to give a chance to our sister Mbarire.

“I am confident that with the support of Kathuri, it is now done. Their teams will now join the UDA fraternity in Embu county and we are looking forward to a resounding victory on August 9,” Ruto stated.

The two’s defection has dealt a blow to the Azimio team, which has been working hard to make inroads in the vote-rich region.
