The owner of Hillside Endrasha Academy, David Kinyua has publicly spoken for the first time about the fire that killed 21 students.
Kinyua expressed his sorrow over the death of the pupils at his school, saying he is grieving with the parents as he, too, has lost pupils.
In an interview with NTV, Kinyua said he has been deeply affected by the tragic incident, as it was something he did not expect.
“I am a parent, and I’ve been with those children for years. And we had gotten used to one another. I have been really saddened because I have also lost so many children. I am asking for your prayers. Pray for us so we can heal faster,” he said.
Kinyua stated that now that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has returned the school to him, he plans to begin renovations.
He added that to prevent students from being traumatized, they have decided to relocate the boys’ dormitory to a different area within the school.
“We’ve called parents for a prayer meeting on Monday. We’ve also invited the church reverend and education officers. Afterwards, we’ll talk on how children will resume their studies.”
He added that a committee has been established to ensure that children who lost everything in the fire are compensated with new items.
“The pupils will come how they left. They don’t need to buy anything because well-wishers are very ready to support those children,” he added.
