Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir attended the opening of the 8th Annual Global International Energy Agency (IEA) Energy Efficiency Conference in France, where 700 delegates from 80 countries, including over 30 ministers and 50 CEOs, are gathering to discuss how to make this a watershed moment for efficiency action.
The CS’s remarks centred on the progress Kenya has made in boosting energy efficiency, including the implementation of necessary legislation, an acceptable renewable energy mix at over 95%, and a solid relationship with the private industrial sector to implement energy efficiency audits.
The CS mentioned that Kenya has a large programme to build 250,000 residences annually for low-income workers and that Kenya aspires to attain universal connection rates access from both grid and off-grid options by 2030.
The CS conducted a bilateral meeting with his Danish counterpart, Dan Joergensen, on the sidelines of the IEA Forum in Paris, where they talked about their countries’ cooperation in the energy industry.
The CS thanked him for his support of the upcoming IEA Conference in Nairobi next year as they discussed their involvement in the climate change meeting that would be held in Kenya in September.
