Members of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Environment Forestry and Mining have adopted two reports from the Committee’s foreign visits in Baku – Azerbaijan and Dubai- UAE in November 2024 and November/December 2023.
In a sitting chaired by Hon. Gertrude Mbeyu (Kilifi – Session Chair), the MPs started by adopting the report from the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Baku, Azerbaijan between 11th and 22nd November, 2024.
Consequently, the Committee went ahead to also adopt a report from the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Dubai, UAE between 30th November and 12th December, 2023.
The lawmakers committed to following up with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry to ensure the implementation of what is discussed in these conferences.
Hon. Feisal Bader who led the delegation to COP28, Dubai, UAE in December 2023 and his colleague Hon. Joseph Emathe who was among those that attended the COP29 Conference in Baku, called on the Committee to consider inviting the Ministry for a discussion on National Determining Contribution -NDC,3.0- and status of the National Adaptation Plan to see the progress in the country.
Hon. Bader further further said a word of appreciation to the National Assembly leadership for granting the Committee such opportunities to represent the institution of Parliament and the Country at large.
