Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale has ordered the immediate closure of Fay’s Bistro club in Kilimani following persistent complaints from local residents about excessive noise.
The decision comes after a crackdown by officials from the Nairobi City County Government, who raided the establishment on Saturday evening as part of efforts to mitigate noise pollution in residential areas.
In a statement shared on X, Duale emphasized the seriousness of the situation, saying,
“Let this serve as a stern warning to all clubs operating in residential areas. Any that continue to play loud music will face the same action. This impunity will not be tolerated!” A team from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) was deployed to the site to enforce the closure.
The action comes in the wake of numerous complaints from residents, who have long found the noise levels intolerable. Fay’s Bistro is not the first club to encounter such issues; Quivers Club Kilimani recently announced it would cease playing loud music after facing potential shutdown due to similar complaints.
Quivers’ management stated that their decision aligns with community interests, aiming to create an environment conducive to meaningful conversations where guests can enjoy food and drinks without the distraction of loud music.
