Kenyans To Pay More For Petrol — EPRA

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a Ksh.2 increase in the retail price of super petrol.

In its latest fuel prices review released on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, EPRA announced that the price of diesel and kerosene per litre will remain unchanged at Ksh.162.00 and Ksh.145. 94 respectively in Nairobi.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price of Super Petrol increases by Ksh. 2.00 per litre while that of Diesel and Kerosene remain unchanged.

“The prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” read the statement in part.

Super petrol will now cost KES 176.98 in Mombasa and KES 179.30 in Nairobi. Diesel will retail at KES 159.76 and KES 162.00 in Mombasa and Nairobi respectively.

The regulator added that the price of diesel has been cross-subsidized with that of super petrol.

“A subsidy of Sh23.49 per litre has been maintained for kerosene in order to cushion consumers from the otherwise high prices,” it added.

The new prices will be in force from March 15, 2023 to April 14, 2023.
