Equity Bank Announces Service Downtime on Digital Banking Platforms

Equity Bank has announced temporary disruption affecting select services as it undertakes system maintenance. 

In a statement on Tuesday, September 23, the bank clarified that the scheduled maintenance will only affect money transfers to other banks.

All other services will continue to function without interruption.

“Due to a planned system maintenance, send money to other banks service on Equity Mobile App, Equity Online, EazzyBiz, *247# and Equitel will be unavailable from Tuesday, 23/9/2025 10:00PM to Wednesday, 24/9/2025 at 4:00AM.

“All other services remain available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

The maintenance comes months after the bank announced that it was experiencing intermittent downtime affecting its digital banking platforms.

In a statement on Friday, July 11, the bank acknowledged the technical difficulties and assured clients that efforts are underway to restore the services.

“Dear member, we are experiencing an intermittent service downtime on our digital banking channels. “Our technical team is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience during this time,” the notice read.

Elsewhere, Safaricom recently conducted a scheduled system upgrade that temporarily interrupted M-Pesa services for three hours on Monday, September 22.

According to a notice issued on Friday, September 19, the maintenance took place between 12:30 AM and 3:30 AM.

“For 18 years, M-PESA has continued to transform lives across Kenya, connecting you, our customers, to opportunities every day.

“To support this and meet our promise to offer always-on, safe, secure, and worry-free financial products and services, we will be conducting a scheduled system upgrade on Monday, 22ⁿᵈ September 2025 from 0:30 AM to 3:30 AM,” Safaricom stated.

During the upgrade, all M-Pesa services, including airtime purchase, were unavailable.

“During the maintenance, all M-Pesa services, including airtime purchases, shall be temporarily unavailable,” Safaricom said.

The company explained that the maintenance exercise was scheduled past midnight to minimize inconvenience to M-Pesa customers.

“We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused and thank you for your continued support,” Safaricom added.
