Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi has sentenced a sexual racist to serve 45 years in prison after convicting him with the offense of defilement.
Erastus Kariuki was slapped with the tough sentence after pleading guilty to the offense of defiling a two-year-old baby in a Church compound.
He was arraigned in Court on July 5, 2022, where he was charged with two counts of sexual assault against the law.
He was accused of defiling the minor causing her serious genital injury which occasioned her to be admitted to Koma Rock Modern Hospital.
Magistrate Wandia Nyamu of Milimani Law Courts while passing the sentence, said that Criminal Justice System has the sole Constitutional responsibility to ensure the protection of children, the elderly, and people living with disabilities who are the most vulnerable population in society.
She further said that Courts are the last hope and solution to the most disadvantaged citizens whose voices need a legal mind to be addressed to the latter.
She said punishment should be made to serve a deterrence effect and that Justice should not only be served but it should also be seen to have been served.
In his mitigation, Kariuki maintained that he was driven by evil spirits to commit the heinous offense.
