Content creator Eric Omondi plans to move to the High Court for anticipatory bail to stop the police from harassing him.
His lawyer Danstan Omari informed the court that he was arrested last week while distributing food to the vulnerable on account that he had violated bond terms issued by the same court.
“Your honor, my client was arrested last week while distributing food to the vulnerable at City Stadium. He was taken to various police stations but was never produced to any court of law. We pray for the protection of our client,” Omari told the court.
The prosecution, in quick rejoinder, maintained that Omondi had violated the bond terms issued and prayed to push the case at a later date saying that their diary was already fixed with other cases.
Omari, told the court that the Prosecution’s move to push the case forward was to pave way for Kenyans to forget what the comedian was advocating for.
The controversial comedian was arrested on the 21st Feb, 2023, along Parliament Road and arraigned in court on 22nd Feb, 2023. He was charged with organizing unlawful demonstration alongside 17 others.
His lawyers, however, informed the court that the only reason that Omondi was arrested was because he had gone to the parliament to make the legislators aware of the High cost of living in the country.
He was later released on a cash bail of 10,000.
The case will be heard on May 19 2023. The prosecution has been ordered to stage all of their witnesses on the said date.
