On Tuesday, comedian Eric Omondi was arrested for the third time this year while transporting boxes allegedly containing over three million curriculum vitae (CVs) to the State House.
According to Omondi, he intended to highlight the issue of joblessness in the country and to present the CVs to President William Ruto to demonstrate how serious the problem is.
“I don’t want to put people’s lives in danger. I collected three million CVs which I’m taking to Hon William Ruto so that he can see how his people have gone to the university but don’t have jobs,” said Omondi.
Omondi was pulling a cart allegedly containing the CVs and was also vocal about the government’s failure to create job opportunities for millions of Kenyans.
He promised to keep pressing the government to address the high cost of living, but hoped the agitation would not turn violent.
“All I want is for the government to listen to the people’s cries on whose behalf I speak,” added Omondi.
He had stated that he was willing to fight for the rights of jobless Kenyans and was ready to die if necessary.
He expressed his belief that the President did not fully understand the hardships that Kenyans were facing.
“If my life will be the reason the voice of the voiceless was heard so be it. I am saying this because from now we are not stopping,” said Eric.
However, he was arrested along the Uhuru Highway and taken to the Central Police Station.
This is the comedian’s third arrest in recent weeks.
On February 21, Omondi was arrested along with 17 others while leading a protest against the high cost of living outside Parliament.
On March 1, he was arrested again while distributing unga to Kenyans at City Stadium.
