Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest aviation group, has partnered with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to establish a new national airline, Air Congo.

The DRC government holds a 51% stake in the carrier, while Ethiopian Airlines owns 49% and will manage operations.

The initiative aims to enhance air connectivity within the DRC and across Africa, fostering trade, investment, and tourism in the region.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew hailed the partnership as a significant milestone in advancing African air transport.

“Air Congo is a vital step in our plan to collaborate with African governments, boosting connectivity and contributing to the socio-economic growth of Central Africa,” he stated.

Air Congo began operations with two Boeing 737-800 aircraft, servicing domestic routes across seven airports.

Ethiopian Airlines is also providing leased aircraft, technical support, and training for Congolese personnel, including pilots and cabin crew.

This collaboration aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ Vision 2035 strategy to create regional hubs across Africa.

The airline has similar partnerships with Zambia Airways, ASKY Airlines, and Malawi Airlines.

With its modern fleet, Ethiopian Airlines continues to strengthen Africa’s aviation infrastructure, showcasing a commitment to regional integration and connectivity.
