Denamo Dawit Yohanis an Ethiopian National, was on Friday charged with being in the country illegally. Yohanis was arrested on February 2, 2021 in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County. – By Meshack Makau.
Yohanis was before Chief magistrate Martha Mutuku. The state claims that the accused was with no legal documents to be in the country.
The defense on the other hand maintained that the accused had legal documents. The advocate provided a birth certificate for confirmation.
The accused through his lawyer argued that his refugee identity card and phone were in the custody of the police and were yet to be released to him.
Mutuku issued an order the investigating officer to appear before the court on February 18 to explain whether or not the phone and ID card were held as exhibits.
Mr. Dawit was however released on Ksh. 100,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Ksh. 50,000.
