Eugene Wamalwa Fires Shots Over Ruto-Tuju Rift, Calls Out Political Accusations

By Peter John

Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has publicly addressed longstanding tensions within Kenya’s political landscape, issuing pointed comments about President William Ruto and former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju.

Speaking at a press conference, Wamalwa accused Tuju of having been aligned against President Ruto, citing the 2022 election period.

He argued that, apart from the late General Ogolla, Tuju was also implicated in actions that opposed Ruto’s political interests at the time.

“Tuju is our friend, not yours,” Wamalwa said, addressing accusations made by political opponents. “We know that in 2022, Raphael Tuju was among those campaigning against William Ruto while serving as CEO of Azimio.”

Wamalwa’s remarks came in response to criticism suggesting that his political camp acts opportunistically. He countered those claims with a sharp rebuke:

“If we are scavengers as you accuse us, then you are the vulture,” he said, emphasizing the perceived duplicity of Ruto’s opponents.

He also referenced ongoing disputes and proxies in the political arena, claiming that Tuju was aware of Ruto’s connections through key associates, including an individual named Chebet, linked to dealings with Stabex.

The Cabinet Secretary concluded by highlighting what he described as lingering grudges between Ruto and Tuju, framing the historical political tensions as central to current debates within Kenya’s ruling and opposition camps.

Wamalwa’s statements shed light on the ongoing tensions and personal rivalries surrounding Raphael Tuju, highlighting the persistent divisions and unsettled disputes between key political figures in Kenya.
