Ex-CS Amina Mohamed Appointed Chancellor Of International University Of East Africa

Former CS Amina Chawahir Mohamed has been installed as the new chancellor of the International University of East Africa (IUEA) in a ceremony held on February 15, 2023.

Amina Mohamed is a former Kenyan cabinet secretary in charge of Sports, Heritage, and Culture.

“We are positive that the Chancellor’s leadership will be instrumental in guiding the institution towards more outstanding achievements,” the institution wrote after her installation.

“To the students, today and tomorrow belong to you. I will do my best to make sure you are equipped with the tools that will magnify and amplify your chances of success in life,” Amina said in her acceptance speech.

Amina is also a Somali-descent lawyer and diplomat.

She has chaired the International Organization for Migration and the World Trade Organization’s General Council, as well as being the UN Environment Programme’s Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director.

She succeeds Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, who died in December 2022.

Professor Mutebile was IUEA’s first chancellor and the governor of the Bank of Uganda.

The International University of East Africa (IUEA) is a private non-profit university in Uganda that offers academic programmes in engineering, business, law, science, and technology.

It has been chartered as a university by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), and it has a multicultural environment with students and faculty from various backgrounds.
