Ex-GSU Officer Arrested Over Links To Bank Robberies

On Tuesday, July 11, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a former General Service Unit officer suspected of masterminding a bank robbery two years ago.

The DCI disclosed in a statement that the former police officer was responsible for a daring daylight bank robbery in Matuu in July 2021.

The former GSU officer is suspected of carrying out nine violent robberies around the country.

“The former police officer was particularly visible in the bank robbery incident when his gang of five robbed the bank and vanished with two AK47 rifles disarmed from officers manning it,” DCI said in a statement.

The agency stated that its detectives worked on the case for two years, during which time they also neutralized the suspect’s group.

One of the stolen firearms was recovered prior to the arrest of the ex-GSU officer, and several arrests were made.
