Ex-Journalist Hussein Mohammed Named State House Spokesperson

Hussien Mohamed, a former Citizen TV anchor, was named State House Spokesperson on Friday, October 14.

President William Ruto confirmed the appointment through the outgoing Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua.

Hussein, who previously worked as Ruto’s communications director, was instrumental in Ruto’s presidential election victory.

He succeeded Kanze Dena, who had worked under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

After Kanze, he became the second journalist from Citizen TV to be appointed as State House Spokesperson.

David Mugonyi, who previously served as Ruto’s communications director at the Office of the Deputy President, was promoted to Head of the Presidential Communication Service as part of the appointments (PSC).

In an Executive Order issued on Thursday, October 13, Ruto renamed PSC from the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU).

Hussein will now be in charge of making statements on Ruto’s behalf and providing updates on various government projects as assigned by the president.

He will also be in charge of the State House’s digital messaging, research, branding, and press.

Hussein claimed that after agreeing to work with Ruto in January 2022, he was drawn to the bottom-up economic model.
