Kanini Kega, a former Kieni Member of Parliament, has announced his intention to run for a seat in the East African Legislative Assembly.
Kega announced the decision on Twitter on Wednesday after “deep soul searching.”
He stated that he will run for the position through the former ruling party, Jubilee.
“After intense consultations and deep soul searching I have decided to offer myself for nomination through Jubilee/Azimio Party for the EALA MP position,’ the politician Twitted on Wednesday.
The ally of opposition chief Raila Odinga said he is ready for the next challenge to represent Kenya in the regional Parliament.
“I believe I have the requisite qualifications and experience to represent our great Nation in the East Africa Legislative Assembly,” he added.
The politician, who was swept aside by the strong United Democratic Alliance wave in Mt Kenya region, could find a soft landing in EALA.
The MP enjoys good cordial ties with Raila, the leader of Azimio.
The deadline for the applications to Parliament expires today ahead of nominations next week.
The bicameral Parliament of Kenya is in charge of electing these representatives.
Following the meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Election of Members to EALA, interested parties are now awaiting notification from the Clerks of the Senate and the National Assembly on nomination dates and election rules.
Candidates will be expected to work with their preferred political parties to secure nominations, while those interested in running as independent candidates may apply to either Clerk.
