Ex-MP Secures ODM Ticket To Busia Governorship Race

During the August 9 elections, former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma will represent the ODM party in the race to succeed Governor Sospeter Ojaamong.

After defeating his sole challenger, woman representative Florence Mutua, the former Sports Minister during President Mwai Kibaki’s regime won the nominations.

Returning officer Charles Tips declared Otuoma the winner at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, after Otuoma received 49,330 votes to Mutua’s 30,696.

The announcement was made at the Busia Agricultural Training Centre in Busia town, where Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala and his Funyula counterpart Wilberforce Mudenyo were also present.

Teso North, Teso South, Nambale, Butula, Matayos, Funyula, and Budalang’i were all represented in the vote.

On Monday, ODM registered members in Busia participated in the party primaries.
Otuoma will now face Lucas Meso of Jubilee, Dan Mogoria of DAP Kenya, and Nambale MP John Bunyasi, who is running for governor on an ANC ticket.
