President William Ruto has nominated Japheth Koome Nchebere to the position of Inspector General of Police.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 27, Ruto stated that Koome will succeed Hillary Mutyambai, who resigned and proceeded on leave.
Koome will be vetted in Parliament before being sworn in, as required by the Constitution.
Prior to the appointment, Koome was attached to the Kenya Police College situated in Kiganjo.
He has vast experience in the police service as he served as the Nairobi police commander in 2018 before being promoted to become the principal assistant of the Deputy inspector general of police Edward Mbugua.
He is a civil engineer.
