Police in Trans Nzoia have banned masks after bodaboda thugs invented a new trick
Police in Trans Nzoia banned the wearing of face masks after boda-boda gangs found a new technique of robbing locals.
Thieves impersonating boda-boda riders, according to Trans Nzoia police chief Nelson Taliti, employ helmets and face masks to conceal their identities.
They then enter business premises disguised as clients in order to rob unsuspecting Kenyans.
“There are legitimate boda-boda riders, but a few is causing disorder in the county.” “They are armed with AK-47s and enter stores and hotels while wearing face masks and helmets,” the commander stated on January 4, 2023.
The commander went on to say that seven shops had been robbed using the same method in only a week, necessitating the prohibition.
“We have increased our investigations, and we already have one person in custody in connection with the robberies,” Taliti said.
“The suspect will be arraigned in court on January 5, and we are certain that further suspects will be apprehended,” the commander added.
Patrol officers are also monitoring the area with sniffer dogs to sort out the goons wreaking mayhem in the neighborhood.
Ferdinand Wanyonyi, the Kwanza Member of Parliament, asked the police department not to desist in providing security.
“There has been an increase in crime in the region, and we request that police officers protect us,” the MP urged.
