Amid protests against the finance bill, multiple activists and demonstrators have been detained by government authorities, with their locations currently unknown.
Faith Odhiambo, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, reported that armed individuals apprehended her Chief of Staff Earnest Nyerere and his wife from their home.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 25, at 5 am, involving eight individuals believed to be police officers.
“We have received alarming reports that Ernest Nyerere, the Chief of Staff of the LSK President Faith Odhiambo was abducted by a contingent of police earlier today together with his partner. The abduction was at 5am by 8 people believed to be police officers,” said advocate James Wanjeri.
Odhiambo has been actively advocating for the release of Kenyans detained, assaulted, or abducted during anti-finance bill protests through her X account.
She denounced the abductions and urged the public to remain vigilant while demanding the safe return of the missing protesters.
Furthermore, Odhiambo called upon legal advocates to support peaceful demonstrators, criticising international human rights organisations for their silence on human rights violations.
Consequently, former LSK president Nelson Havi has reminded President William Ruto of his promise to prioritise Kenyans’ rights.
“My Chief of Staff, Ernest Nyerere, was abducted and is being held incommunicado. President William Ruto undertook that his regime will not abduct, detain, or torture Kenyans. CS Kindiki Kithure, you cannot act contrary to the law and the President’s commitment. Release Mwalimu now!” said Havi.
Meanwhile, a large-scale protest organised by Gen Zs on Tuesday, June 25, is currently unfolding nationwide.
