Fake Cop to Be Charged with Violent Robbery of Indian National in Nairobi

A man accused of impersonating a traffic police officer and violently robbing an Indian national of nearly Ksh 1 million is set to face charges at the Milimani Law Courts.

Ezekiel Muia Mutuku appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi on Monday, where he was scheduled to answer to charges of robbery with violence and unlawful possession of public stores.

However, the prosecution requested more time to file an affidavit opposing his release on bond, postponing the plea to Tuesday.

According to the prosecution, Mutuku violently robbed Patel Kashyakumar Khantibahi of Ksh 999,000 on June 28, 2025, along 1st Parklands Avenue in Nairobi’s Westlands Sub-county.

The complainant had just withdrawn the cash from I&M Bank, located approximately 200 meters from the scene, when he was trailed and ambushed.

Police reports indicate that Mutuku, allegedly driving a Toyota Axio, blocked the victim’s vehicle before two men alighted — one dressed in what appeared to be a police uniform and the other in civilian clothing.

The attackers, armed and posing as law enforcement, reportedly forced the victim to open his car at gunpoint, assaulted him, and fled with the cash.

Investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led to Mutuku’s arrest in Eldoret, where he was also found in possession of government-issued items — specifically a National Police Service crown badge and a white canvas cap cover, both categorized as official police property. These items were recovered on July 2, 2025, along Ronald Ngara Street in Eldoret Township, Moiben Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.

The prosecution intends to charge him with unlawful possession of public stores, in addition to the primary charge of robbery with violence.

Mutuku remains in custody and is expected to take plea on Tuesday, July 16, 2025.
