Fake NIS Officer Charged For Swindling Gov’t Officer Ksh.150K

A fake National Intelligence Service Officer was on Thursday arraigned and charged with obtaining money from unsuspecting citizens pretending to be able to help them secure jobs in the Intelligence Service.

Laban Mutuku Lola the accused was charged that on January 5, 2020, in Nairobi, he obtained Ksh.150,000 from James Tama Musyoka a senior public official by pretending he was in a position to facilitate employment of his spouse in the NIS.

He is said to have extorted money from members of the public while impersonating a NIS officer.

According to the EACC, the accused had been on the run since April 24, 2023, when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concurred with recommendations of the commission to prosecute him.

He was arrested from his hideout in Umoja 3 Estate.

Mutuku pleaded not guilty before Milimani Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi and was released on a bond of Ksh.300,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh.150,000.
