Family Bank Board Chair Dies Barely Weeks After Appointment

Francis Gitau Mungai, Family Banks’ new board chair, died three weeks after being appointed to replace the retiring Wilfred Kiboro.

Family Bank’s board of directors and management issued a statement announcing Gitau’s death while receiving treatment in the US.

Francis Gitau Mungai, an architect, has been a member of the Family Bank Limited Board of Directors since 2016, serving as Vice Chairman for the last two years before being appointed Chairman recently.

He chaired both the Board Credit Committee and the Board Human Resources Committee.

He served on the Nominations and Governance Committee and as a director of Pesa Pap Digital, a subsidiary of Family Bank Ltd.

Arch. Mungai had been a customer and architect for the Board since 1996 before joining it.

He contributed significantly to the Bank’s growth and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in architecture and contract management.

He was a founding partner of Aaki Consultants, Architects, and Urban Designers and has held leadership positions at prestigious firms including Triad Architects in Nairobi and Urban Innovation Group (UIG) in Los Angeles.

He earned a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Bachelor of Architecture with First-Class Honours from the University of Nairobi.
