Today at the Kahawa Law Courts, the FBI Team comprising COP Shakur, COP Kimathi, and Osoi secured their release after being granted cash bail of Ksh. 50,000 each by magistrate Richard Koech.
The three, known for their activism against police brutality and impunity in Kenya, were released under strict bail conditions.
These include weekly reporting to the police, no contact with witnesses, and no involvement in any criminal activity during the course of the case.
Among the advocates present in court were Hon. Babu Owino, Noordean Khangai, Miss Wanjira Maina and Abner Mango, who played a key role in securing their freedom.

“Today at Kahawa Law Courts, we secured the freedom of the FBI Team- Fighting Brutality and Impunity in Kenya. They were RELEASED on cash bail of KSh. 50,000 each. A big thank you to all the Advocates who played a role in the release of Cop Shakur, Cop Kimathi, and Osoi,” Babu Owino wrote.
The arrests drew public attention due to the men’s efforts in protesting against extrajudicial killings, police misconduct, and systemic injustice.
The trio had earlier declared their intention to fight for the rights of every Kenyan mistreated by security forces and to advocate for police officers who the state had abandoned.
On July 30, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that Osoi had been arrested along Lang’ata Road in possession of a firearm.
That same day, Cop Shakur was apprehended in Kahawa West. At the time of arrest, he was found wearing a red beret emblazoned with the FBI symbol, an item which authorities alleged could be tied to the group’s activities.
Kimathi, the third member, was arrested the following day in Kinoru village, Meru County, in what detectives described as an intelligence-led operation.
