Ferdinand Omanyala and Faith Kipyegon Appointed to APS Bomet FC Board

Kenyan sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala has taken a significant step into football administration following his appointment to the board of FKF Premier League newcomers, APS Bomet FC. The Africa 100m record-holder will be joined by fellow athletics icon and triple Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon on the club’s newly constituted board.

The appointments, seen as a strategic move to boost the club’s profile and ambition, come just weeks after APS Bomet secured promotion to the 2025/26 FKF Premier League. The team clinched the final automatic promotion spot after the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee awarded them a 2-0 win over Kibera Black Stars, following an abandoned match on June 1. The game, held at Jamhuri Sports Complex, was stopped in the 79th minute due to crowd trouble after APS Bomet equalized. FKF later ruled that Kibera was liable for the chaos, which included an assault on assistant referee Eunice Njeri.

With that victory, APS Bomet rose to 64 points, enough to secure promotion alongside Nairobi United.

The club’s inaugural board meeting was held on Friday, July 18, and was chaired by Bishop Fred Akama. The full board will be officially unveiled next week as it embarks on a long-term strategic development plan.

Omanyala’s appointment adds to what has already been a remarkable year for him on the track. In 2025, he has recorded a series of impressive performances, including a 10.00-second finish at the Botswana Grand Prix, a 10.02 sprint at the Uganda Trials, and a national and African 150m record of 14.70 at the Atlanta City Games. He also played a key role in Kenya’s historic qualification for the 4×100m relay at the World Championships.

With this new boardroom role, Omanyala now brings his star power and competitive drive to the football pitch, this time, from the sidelines.
