Fernandes Barasa of the ODM is leading the race for governor of Kakamega.
With the official results yet to be announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), preliminary results show that Barasa received 192,768 votes while ANC’s Cleophas Malala received 159,275 votes.
The election, which had been postponed twice, saw a low voter turnout.
Barasa won all of the southern region’s constituencies and two more in the northern region, while Malala won all of the central and northern regions’ constituencies.
The election was marred by voter bribery, intimidation, and violent incidents.
ODM has now established its authority in Kakamega, having won nine of the 12 parliamentary seats, the woman representative seat, and 48 of the 60 MCAs in the August 9 general election.
