President Alexander Stubb of Finland and his spouse, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, have arrived in Kenya for a historic three-day state visit from May 12 to 14, 2025.
The visit, the first ever by a Finnish head of state to Kenya, celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The Finnish Embassy in Nairobi confirmed that President Stubb will begin his official engagements with a meeting with President William Ruto in Nairobi on Monday.
The two leaders will discuss bilateral ties, global challenges affecting Africa and Europe, and ways to strengthen multilateral cooperation.
Following their talks, President Stubb will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Uhuru Gardens before being hosted alongside the First Lady at a state banquet by President and First Lady Rachel Ruto.
Throughout the visit, President Stubb is scheduled to meet local NGO representatives, foreign policy experts, and deliver addresses at key institutions.
He will give a major speech at the University of Nairobi on geopolitics and the transformation of the multilateral order, and speak at the EU-Kenya Business Forum’s closing event.
Stubb will also take part in a business seminar hosted by Business Finland, with a focus on sustainable urban development and healthcare innovation. His programme includes visits to a technical training institution and a vocational company supported by Finnish foreign aid.
Additionally, he will tour a digital connectivity project in Kawangware and meet UN leaders at the UNON headquarters, where discussions will cover global governance and Kenya’s role in the multilateral system.
He is accompanied by MPs Saara-Sofia Sirén and Inka Hopsu, as well as a Finnish business delegation.
