A devastating fire at Nandi Primary School in Kapsabet destroyed a dormitory and six teachers’ quarters, causing significant property damage.
The fire, believed to have been triggered by a gas cylinder explosion, broke out on Wednesday evening, rapidly spreading from a small section to the entire building.
Residents and firefighters from Nandi County worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, which was finally brought under control after an hour, preventing it from reaching nearby classrooms.
Despite their efforts, nothing was salvaged from the inferno. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Parents are now appealing for help to rebuild the dormitory and replace the lost furniture, as students have already returned to school.
Some residents expressed frustration with their local member of Parliament, accusing him of neglecting the school and cancelling previously promised funds for classroom construction.
They are urging the immediate release of emergency funds to assist in the reconstruction.
This incident follows a similar fire at Igoji Primary School in Meru just a month earlier, raising concerns about the safety and infrastructure of schools in the region.
Residents are calling on the government to step in and provide the necessary support for one of Nandi County’s most populated schools.
