Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed after a fierce inferno burned down several rental premises in Mjini Estate, Kipkelion Trading Centre, in Kipkelion Sub-County during the early hours of Sunday.
According to witnesses, the fire started in one of the houses before spreading to adjacent structures, which were constructed from timber and iron sheets.
During the incident, six goats were burnt beyond recognition, and several bags of maize, among other items, were also reduced to ashes.
Members of the public attempted to extinguish the fire but were overwhelmed by its intensity, which spread rapidly due to the dry weather conditions and the dry building materials used in construction.
The County Government of Kericho’s fire brigade did not arrive in time to contain the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Residents are appealing to well-wishers to intervene and help them rebuild their lives.
