Following a deal to alleviate a global food crisis, a UN-chartered vessel laden with grain set sail from Ukraine for Africa on Tuesday, according to the Ukrainian ministry in charge of shipments.
The MV Brave Commander has left the Black Sea port of Pivdennyi and will sail to Djibouti “for delivery to Ethiopia,” according to the Ukrainian infrastructure ministry on Telegram.
According to reports, the ship is carrying 23,000 metric tons of wheat.
It is the first ship chartered by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to leave Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February. The U.N has stated that it expects two or three more similar shipments to arrive in Africa soon.
