Five individuals arrested during anti–Africa Forward Summit protests in Nairobi have been formally charged at the Milimani Magistrates Court with offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace.

The accused persons, identified in court documents as Beres Muthomi, Tracy Phanice Auma, Patience Gitau, Kenneth Juma and Samuel Jomunga, appeared before Hon. Rose Ndombi following their arrest during demonstrations linked to the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

According to the charge sheet, the five are accused of breaching peace on May 11, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m. near the University of Nairobi by allegedly throwing stones while shouting, actions prosecutors say caused apprehension among persons attending the summit.

The charge sheet states that the accused persons committed:

“Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to Section 94(1) of the Penal Code.”

Court documents further allege that the incident occurred within Nairobi City County “thereby causing apprehension to persons attending the Africa Forward Summit.”

The matter was presented before the Milimani Magistrates Court under Criminal Case No. E243 of 2026.

The five were each released on a cash bail of Ksh 5,000 or a bond of Ksh 50,000 and the case was scheduled for mention on May 18, 2026, before Hon. Irene Thamara at the Milimani Magistrates Court.

The arrests followed protests that broke out in Nairobi on Tuesday 12 May,2026, as activists attempted to march toward areas surrounding the Serena Hotel, Uhuru Highway and the Kenyatta International Convention Centre during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit.

Police later dispersed the crowds and several demonstrators were arrested in the Nairobi CBD after attempts to breach security zones near KICC, where summit activities were taking place.
