Security agencies in Kerio Valley Sub-County have received five illegal firearms following a voluntary surrender by residents as part of the ongoing disarmament exercise in the region.
According to authorities, the surrender took place on Monday, 15 September 2025, with five residents from Sagat, Kasemoi, and Marich Sub-Locations of Tot Division handing over the weapons to security officials.
The cache comprised three AK-47 rifles with empty magazines, one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, and another AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing five rounds.
All the weapons have been secured and are awaiting further administrative action.
In a statement, the National Police Service commended the individuals for their cooperation and praised local leaders and communities for supporting peacebuilding efforts in the area.
“The surrender of these firearms marks an important step towards restoring peace and security in Kerio Valley,” the NPS said, urging other residents to emulate the gesture by surrendering illegal arms and sharing intelligence to aid disarmament and crime prevention.
