Five suspects appeared before the Nakuru High Court on Thursday, March 13, facing murder charges in connection with the brutal killing of Nakuru activist Richard Otieno, also known as Molo President.
The suspects are accused of murdering Otieno, a blogger and political activist, at his residence in Elburgon.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed in a statement on March 14 that the suspects were charged with the crime, which occurred on January 18, 2025.
Otieno was attacked while returning home from a local entertainment venue. His body was discovered the following day, and an autopsy confirmed he died from severe head injuries inflicted by a sharp object.
During their appearance before Lady Justice Patricia Gichohi, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case has been scheduled for mention on Thursday, March 27, to determine bond terms.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended three additional suspects on February 24, two of whom were captured with assistance from Tanzanian authorities.
According to the DCI, three of the suspects were directly responsible for the murder, while the other two, both boda boda riders, helped transport the attackers.
The case continues to attract attention, with protests from Molo residents following Otieno’s tragic death.
