The body of a five year old girl has been recovered from a river in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, after she was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon.
The child, a pupil at Kamelilo Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre and a resident of the Kap-Gidion area, reportedly went missing at around 2:00 PM while on her way home from school.
According to witnesses, the minor is believed to have attempted to cross the swollen River Tilatil when she was swept away by the fast-moving waters.
Her body was later recovered from the river as heavy rains continue to pound parts of the county, causing rivers to swell and increasing the risk of such incidents.

Eldama Ravine Assistant County Commissioner David Cheruiyot confirmed the incident and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of escorting children to and from school, especially during the ongoing rainy season.
Authorities processed the scene before moving the body to the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Cheruiyot also cautioned residents to avoid crossing River Tilatil, warning that it remains dangerously swollen due to the continued rainfall.
The incident highlights the growing risks posed by flooding and rising water levels in several parts of the country as heavy rains persist.
