FKF: Gor Lying About Gusii Stadium Chaos

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has firmly rejected allegations by Gor Mahia regarding Sunday’s violent scenes at Gusii Stadium during their Premier League clash with Shabana FC.

In a strongly worded response, FKF Secretary Harold Ndege dismissed claims that a senior federation official from Nairobi influenced the decision to proceed with the game. “There was no directive from the federation. The match commissioner was solely responsible for determining whether the match could continue,” said Ndege.

Chaos erupted in the stands, leaving 72 fans injured and prompting outrage from Gor Mahia, who on Monday issued a statement blaming FKF for what they termed as negligence. Gor alleged that the referee reversed a mutual agreement between both teams to halt the match due to safety concerns, reportedly after receiving a phone call from Nairobi.

However, Ndege refuted the claims, saying, “It is very difficult to respond to hearsay. If the match commissioner believed the situation was unsafe, he had the authority to stop the game.” He further defended the venue, stating that Gusii Stadium had been assessed and declared fit to host the match.

On the matter of hooliganism, FKF said police investigations are underway and anyone caught on camera inciting violence will face legal consequences. Ndege confirmed that FKF is reviewing the official match report and if Shabana is found culpable, disciplinary action will follow.

The incident has reignited debate about stadium security and FKF’s role in protecting players and fans alike.
