The death of Mutula Kilonzo, the flamboyant Senator shocked the world. His death still remains a mystery to date.
This however is in the past. – By Henry Kimoli
It will do Mutula Kilonzo justice if what he stood for is prosecuted. First things first, Mutula Kilonzo was the original ‘hustler-per-excellnce’. Forget DP William Ruto.
He hustled his way to the heart and trust of former President Daniel Arap Moi. From humble, almost demeaning background, Mutula rose to the pinnacle of power, money and wealth. Using the only weapon at his disposal: intellect.
From the vantage position of the President’s lawyer, Mutula acquired wealth and political power beyond the imagination of his Mbooni peers.
Mutula firmly believed in his ability as a person. That is why he named his first born son after himself: Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
Despite his academic prowess (the man chewed a first class honours in Law), Mutula treasured his Kamba heritage.
His children speak fluent Kikamba and observe all Kamba customs to the letter.
He also knew when he was beaten. When Moi was evicted from power in 2002, Mutula chose not to mourn with the political orphans left behind by the philandering former President.
He moved on and established other networks.
Mutula was also a drama king.
He and Kalonzo Musyoka were like day and night politically. But Mutula needed Kalonzo as a vehicle to his next destination. And so he not only hiked a lift, but also became the driver.
And so the man single handedly marketed the then ODM Kenya candidate with the Wiper brand… He coined the Wiper slogan, but forgot to patent it.
Be that as it may, the people of Makueni need not worry. In Mutula Kilonzo Junior, the lion of Mbooni lives.
And then there is Kethi Kilonzo…the apple of Mutula original who almost single handedly stopped UhuRuto from succeeding President Mwai Kibaki; before she was herself stopped by the deep state.
